Grand Opening - Feb 2018
On Friday 2 February our new buildings were formally opened by Ray Puddifoot, Leader of the Council, and Boris Johnson, MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip. The pair unveiled a plaque in the school's entrance hall.
The buildings include new state-of-the-art classrooms, modern learning spaces and ICT suites, a large library, purpose built drama and music areas, a four court sports hall, dance studio and external sports courts. There is new furniture and IT equipment throughout. There is also a large vocational training centre on-site.
In his introduction Mark Bland, Headteacher, thanked everyone involved in the rebuilding of the school for all their hard work and efforts. He added that this was the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the school and that all members of the community were thrilled with the new facilities.
Leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ray Puddifoot, is a former pupil of the School and said: "It was clear some years ago that the building was in need of replacement, and as Leader of the council I was able to be part of the team that ensured that sufficient finding was made available to completely rebuild the school. This investment will in part repay the debt that I and generations of local boys owed to the School, but more importantly ensure that many future generations of local boys and girls can benefit from the Oak Wood experience in years to come."
Boris Johnson said: "It's such a pleasure to see what the council and everybody responsible for the school has been able to do - to produce this fantastic, wonderful, brand spanking new Oak Wood School. Many congratulations to everyone involved." Mr Johnson also praised the school, saying in his previous visits he had formed the strong impression of a "very happy, energetic place that was really going places”.
